The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton published
by Dell Publishing Group New York 1967. S.E Hinton wrote The Outsiders novel when she was 16 years old that was her first
novel. Now she lives in Tulsa Oklahoma with her husband and son. In this novel
you will find action with bits of drama and horror. The story takes place in a
small town that is divided by two social classes rich and poor. The main
character Ponyboy Curtis is a young smart boy but due to some conflicts he had,
was forced to leave town and into the country with a friend named Johnny. Due
to his action he was given a choice of hiding forever or going back to confront
his mistakes made earlier in the novel.
I
really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who can read.
During the book there is always drama between the two classes they are each
like gangs that don’t like each other. Even though the movie was great they
missed out on very important things that the book did have. “You really killed
him huh Johnny”? “Yeah” His voice quavered slightly. I had to”(Hinton52). “Stay
gold, Ponyboy Stay gold…the pillow seemed to sink a little and Johnny…”(Hinton130).
The movie still shows and makes you feel like you’re their and you can really relate
to them. This book really showed me how many towns used to be or still are,
there are many places that have a couple of gangs that all they do is cause
trouble.
